On Wednesday California’s wine growers unveiled a certification program to allow wineries to pay outside auditors a fee to ensure they are following sustainable practices. Until recently these assessments were monitored only by the California SustainableWinegrowing Alliance. It may not seem like a major step, but third party certification will allow industry members to more easily evaluate a winemakers green standards. The bar for becoming green may not be as high as some would like but it’s a start.
