Pet-Nat (short for Petillant Naturel which means Naturally Sparkling) wines have been around for centuries but have enjoyed an increase in popularity over the last several years. Pétillant-Naturel is a catch-all term for practically any sparkling wine made in the méthode ancestrale, meaning the wine is bottled before primary fermentation is finished, without the addition of secondary yeasts or sugars. Because it is a natural wine they are more on the rustic side, traditionally cloudy, unfiltered and usually sealed with a bottle cap. Neither one of us has ever tried one before so when one showed up on the shelves at Trader Joe’s we knew the time to experience one had arrived! For this week’s episode we will be trying the Trader Joe’s Amuse Bouche Pet-Nat wine. Produced in the Languedoc region of France, this wine comes in at 12.5% ABV and sells for $11.99.
