Give It A Shot – Vanderghinste Oud Bruin
Today at the tasting table we have the Vanderghinste Oud Bruin. Originally called “Ouden Tripel”, this West Flanders Brown beer has become a long standing regional specialty. The main ingredients are simple: malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts, but what happens next is what makes this beer unique. This base beer is then blended with a lambic beer aged in oak for 18 months. We have had a few other Oud Bruin style beers and they have been a little bit of a dissapointment. Let’s hope this beer I (Andrew) brought back from my trip to La Jolla changes that trend.
