Recently, the Trader Joe’s that Keith works at was able to obtain a liquor license that allows them to sell spirits. Not the ethereal or otherworldly kind, but the type you drink. These types of beverages are also known as “hard liquor.” They are called this because they have a considerably higher alcohol by volume (ABV) content than things like wine or beer, and include such things as gin, vodka, and whiskey. We at About Beverages feel it is our duty to do our due diligence and put some of their offerings under intense scrutiny in the tasting room. The research begins in earnest this week as we have decided to try one of their private label bourbons, the Kentucky Bourbon Straight Whiskey. A quick search of the internet hints at the fact that it may be made for Trader Joe’s by one of the distillers under the Buffalo Trace umbrella, 1792, although this is just speculation.
