Give It A Shot – Shipyard Brewing Summer Ale

Shipyard Brewing has a long history with our site. It goes all the way back to 2009 when we first had their Pumpkinhead beer as part of our Autumn Season Beers podcast. It took us by surprise how much we enjoyed it. That began a trend of seasonal pumpkin beer shows where four breweries battle it out for pumpkin supremacy. Shipyard won that first year. Fast forward to 2012 and they were able to win our palates again with the Puglsey's Signature Series Smashed Pumpkin. Obviously they know about the spice, but can they work without that net. We will find out today as we taste their Summer Ale a traditional American wheat beer. Brewed April through August, it meets some of our initial parameters when looking for our a hot Summer days beer; sessionable at 4.8% ABV and since it is a wheat beer it should be more on the refreshing side. Will it bring good flavor to finish out the trifecta and be an appropriate warm weather option? Time to find out. If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.
