Four pumpkin beers entered the tasting arena over the last two weeks to compete against the current champion Puglsey’s Signature Series Smashed Pumpkin. One more will be added to the challenger ranks today and then a decision will be made. That beer is the Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale from Howe Sound Brewing. It is part of the John Mitchell series and uses fresh roasted pumpkin along with the usual accompaniment of spices. The second and final beer will be The Shipyard Brewing Pugsley’s Signature Series Smashed Pumpkin. We have been enjoying and talking about this one for several years now, but for those of you just joining us we will give a rundown. Using pumpkin (of course) and a blend of Willamette and Hallertau hops this beers always brings the great balance of spice, pumpkin and buttery pie crust. Time to taste and commence a final discussion about all six beers leading up to our championship decision.
