Over the years, we have tried several beverages that have had connections to the music industry. Without going into the archives at AboutBeverages.com we can list several right off of the top of our heads. We have had a beer (Enter Night Pilsner by Stone) and a whiskey (Blackened) from Metallica, a delicious dark sour ale (Clutch, from New Belgium) made in conjunction with the band Clutch, and an IPA (Phantom Bride, from Belching Beaver) named after a song by the Deftones. This trend was even on display locally as we tried an anniversary beer (Here Comes a Regular) made by Tombstone Brewing to commemorate the 6th anniversary of Tap and Bottle that was named after a song by The Replacements. While we realize that this week’s beverage is not directly connected to a band, its name is so very close to the name of a 1960’s California surf band that we decided to make the leap. In this episode we will be trying the Surfari IPA from Pizza Port Brewing Company. This beer, which is their seasonal release for January thru March, is a re-imaging of a classic West Coast style IPA and features the Nelson hop. In case you were wondering about the subtle music connection, The Surfaris are the band responsible for the surf music classic “Wipe Out.” What did we think? What do you think?
