It’s been awhile since we’ve had a gueuze and we figured what better time than the heat of summer to correct this. The Lindemans Cuvee Rene Gueuze purchased at our local Tap and Bottle is available year round. Originating in Belgium, this style of beer is made by blending old and young lambic beers together. Old is defined as 2-3 years and young is 1 year. The combination of the young still containing fermentable sugars and wild-spontaneous yeast flora creates a secondary fermentation in the bottle. When it comes to Lindemans, they use a blend of 2/3 young and 1/3 old to create their flavor profile. Time to taste and see if this gueuze deserves all of its accolades or if it’s just “All Mixed Up”.
