Give It A Shot – Joia All Natural Soda Lime, Hibiscus and Clove

Today on the show we have a new alternative soda option I (Andrew) recently discovered at my local Sprouts Farmers Market. The Joia Lime, Hibiscus and Clove all natural soda is the first of two such offerings we will have over the coming weeks. As it goes with most of these types of beverages you can expect to pay a little more, $6.49 for 4-12oz bottles to be exact. We mentioned previously in our Sunday post, that the audio from this and the next episode leaves something to be desired. Actually that's probably being too kind. The audio sounds something like two men, underwater, far off in the distance, amongst a colony of angry bees discussing a new soda option. Thankfully the bullet points of our conversation were saved in my memory banks and a cliff notes blow by blow version of the discussion can be found at the site.

  • Always looking for new soda options and we found one.
  • Joia All Natural Soda made with Lime, Hibiscus and Clove.
  • Surprising with it having the hibiscus that the color is more of a straw color.  The hibiscus we have always worked with is red.
  • Hopefully the clove doesn’t come through too much.
  • Wow!  Not much carbonation.
  • Clove comes through on the nose with the lime coming in second.
  • Interesting.  When tasting, what we got in the aroma is reversed in the flavor.  Lime then clove.
  • Sweeter than we thought it would be with nice lime/hibiscus tart balance.  Clove is pleasant on the finish.
  • At 28g of sugar, less than normal soda which is nice.
  • Due to the… let’s be honest, no carbonation, this would not be the greatest to drink by itself, but would be a nice mixer.  Perhaps gin or tequila would be a nice compliment.  Not vodka.  Ever.  If you want to discover what they have come up with for mixed drink options, click the picture below to go their website.
