Give It A Shot – Ballast Point Barrel Rested Old Grove Gin

Believe it or not, it is an honest, and yet amazingly tasty coincidence that the brewery who is home to this years About Beverages pumpkin beer podcast winner will be featured on our very next podcast. There is a bit of a twist, however, as we will not be tasting a beer from Ballast Point this week. Instead, we will be featuring the San Diego area brewer/distiller's offering of one of our favorite spirits, gin. We will be tasting their Barrel Rested Old Grove gin, which is an oak-aged version of their Old Grove gin. Since it is rested for 50 days in a charred oak barrel, it does actually have a yellow tinge which distinguishes it from most of the gins we have tried. That, however, is the only bit of information you will learn about it in this post. Andrew picked this up at a Bevmo while on vacation in Southern California in June. In the interest of full disclosure, he had tried it before tasting it on the podcast, but bringing it to the tasting room always allows for a more in-depth analysis which we then enjoy sharing with you. If you have any ideas for future episodes of "Give It A Shot" or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.
