We stay in San Francisco this week as we try another beverage from Almanac Beer Company. The Farmer’s Reserve Citrus is included in their immense lineup of Farm to Barrel Series beers. Like the Sourdough Wild Ale we had last week, the Citrus uses the same “Dogpatch” sour culture. This blend of wild Belgian and American yeasts also includes a local sourdough starter. In addition to that Buddha’s Hand citrons and Bergamot oranges are added before being aged in wine barrels. Like all of the beers in this series, they can be drank fresh or cellared. Since this beer is still “alive” in the bottle, when you choose to drink will change the taste. Ours was bottled a little over a month ago which is quite a difference from the Sourdough Wild Ale we had last week which was around 15 months old. Time to taste and see if the citrus tart we are hoping for is “alive” and well in the bottle.
