How do you take Stone Brewing’s already delicious Smoked Porter and make it better? We had several ideas kicking around: Pinto bean, lima bean, baked bean (our personal favorite) and even garbanzo bean. Apparently these ideas were a little too off the beaten path so they took a suggestion from small batch brewer Laura Ulrich and went with vanilla bean. The story goes that she had poured some of the regular smoked porter over a couple of scoops of ice cream resulting in a wonderful blend of flavors that were dessert like, but not too sweet. Maybe someday Stone will listen to our suggestions, but until then we will simply taste what we have.
