The 2010 Affentaler Pinot Noir is grown in Germany’s southern most wine growing region known as Baden. This area which is part of the Rhine Valley and is at the foot of the Black Forest has become know for its Rieslings and Pinot Noirs. Affentaler means “Valley of the Monkey” hence the symbolic copper monkey logo which has been around since 1949. Most of our knowledge of Pinot Noir comes from the California and Oregon expression of this grape, so it will be interesting to see what Germany’s terroir has to offer.
