Welcome to Episode 26 of the AboutBeverages.com podcast! After much deliberation we decided to start the year on a sour note and with a full length show to boot. Yes once again we are going to let our love for this style shine through as we taste a trifecta of sour ales from Cascade Brewing. Located in Portland, Oregon the brewery was started in 1998 by Art Larrance with the help of Brewmaster Ron Gansberg. After growing the business for a few years they decided the best way to stand out from the multitude of other breweries in the area was to create an intense sensory experience. Not wanting to get involved in the “hops arms race” they decided to look around the area and see what else they could draw upon. With the abundance of local fruit and supply of wine barrels in the region they took to making their first base beer in 2006, that would then be used to create their first sour beers. Fast forward to present day and that big idea with modest beginnings brings us to our tasting table. On the show we will be tasting Apricot, The Vine and Kriek sour ales. Helping us with all this discussion and providing the beer will be a returning guest to the show, Eric, who you will remember from our previous sour beer podcast.
